Feb 17 (Reuters) – China have dominated freestyle aerial skiing for several years and a bronze medal for Jia Zongyang on Monday was a paltry Olympic return for a powerhouse team that had been tipped for a clean sweep in the men’s final.

One by one, the Chinese contenders fell by the wayside and in the four-man final a spectacular jump by Anton Kushnir of Belarus put a stop to the Chinese challenge once and for all.

Sochi’s slopes crashed China’s dreams for a gold medal in freestyle skiing women’s aerials at the Winter Olympics.

Xu Mengtao missed her landing Friday after leading the second final with a high score of 101.08. Xu said the slope felt steeper than normal. The 23 year-old from China’s northeastern Liaoning province earned silver with 83.50 points, behind Belarus skier Alla Tsuper’s 98.01.
